All I can say about MSET 2011 is WOW! I really had a great time with my local PLN and loved meeting all the my new friends as well. It was my first time being a presenter and that worked out well. I thought that I would be nervous but I had a lot of fun. Thanks to Joquetta Johnson for encouraging me to present. Maybe I’ll even try presenting again since I had so much fun. Kona Grill has become one of my favorite restaurants because the food was awesome and it was close to the Convention Center. I have committed myself to trying to blogging more especially since I have this wonderful site. Did I mention that there are many apps for bloggers? Ooh aah. I’m currently using an app called Blogsy to make this post to my blog. Look for my favorite apps to reviewed on my blog. That’s a wrap until next time. Presenting at MSET is going to be a blast. I’m excited about sharing all the things I love about the iPad. The iPad is a year old and already there are over 65,000 apps. This time next year there will be many more. Below is the presentation. It’s all about the APPS!

iTranslate for iPad

I have truly enjoyed using the iTranslate app for the iPad. Teaching at an international school is lots of fun but can be challenging when trying to communicate with some ESOL students. The iTranslate app has allowed me to communicate with many of my students very easily during library. I have a student from Japan who works very hard in class and the smile on his face was worth a million bucks when I started using the iPad to communicate with him. My Japanese students think the app is really cool and they like typing messages back to me. I love getting cool kudos from my ESOL students. This app is one of my favorites.

Twitter for Everyone

Twitter is a social network I think everyone should try at least once. I have connected with so many media specialists and other educational professionals all around the world through Twitter. My PLN (Personal Learning Network) has been great and I’ve learned so much from them. I’m hooked and if you give it a try you may like it too. My friend from my PLN, Gwyneth Jones created a comic to help those who would like to give it a try. Try it out you just might like it and learn something while enjoying tweeting.

Apple’s iPad

After being excited for weeks over the anticipation of the Apple iPad, it’s finally here. I currently own many Apple products and l even owned the Newton when they tried that too. I do understand the mixed reviews because some people were hoping for something similar to the Netbook. Apple always said they would not make a smaller computer than the MacBook. I think Apple is trying to compete for the eReader market. I currently own a Kindle and I absolutely love it. I don’t have plans to sell it because it will still serve a purpose for me even when there is an iPad in the house. It will be like having two bookshelves in the house that house many books in two places. I love that I’ll be able to edit my blog on such a small device. It is just a matter of choosing what kind of eReader you want to house your favorite books. Like a Honda and a Lexus are two different cars with different bells and whistles, but they both have wheels to get you to your destination.

After being home for nine days during the Blizzard of 2010, I’ve finally put together my Digital Librarian 21 Blog. Over the last few days I’ve learned so much about wordpress and HTML (still learning for sure). I blog to share information with friends and other library media specialist like me around the world. I love to read, but I do read my books on a Kindle and soon an iPad I hope. I’m not your mother’s librarian and everything I do in my media center is different than I remember when I was going through school. I hope you’ll visit often and leave many comments.
